Investment from the Government of Canada to enhance the CFIA is 162,6 million US dollars. The investment ensures that Canada has one of the most modern and efficient food safety systems in the world and that plants and animals are protected.
This funding will enhance the inspection, monitoring and supervisory programs of CFIA. In the first eleven months of 2020, Canadian exports of agro-foods and seafood grew by 10.1%. Exports exceeded the record of $67 billion last year already.
Agriculture and the agri-food industry alone contributes more than $110B to the gross domestic product in Canada annually.
