Naresh Madhu: Pabna General Hospital has almost failed to provide proper healthcare services to patients as it is facing acute crisis of doctors, taffs and accommodation facilities.
According to hospital sources, there are only 32 doctors and others against 58 posts at the full-fledged hospital meant for 15.20 lakh people of the district.
A total 100 beds and 16 isolation beds for COVID19 patients of the hospital. But due to lack of sufficient doctors and nurses it may not possible to provide support to the patients. On the other hand, most of the private clinics does not maintaining the thumb rules of corona virus prevention. A section of doctors are visiting their patients with out maintaining social distance, even some of the doctors are also corona positive. So a terrific situation has been prevailing over the Pabna district.
On the other hand, currently, there is no senior consultant at cardiology, children, surgery, anesthesia and medicine departments.
According to the information of hospital the post of senior consultant of Orthopedic is laying vacant for 6 year, senior consultant of skin is laying vacant for two years, senior consultant of child is laying vacant for three months senior consultant of ENT is laying vacant for one year, junior cardiologist is laying vacant for 4 months Junior consultant of medicine is for 4 months, junior consultant of skin is vacant for 5 years, residential surgeon is laying vacant for 6 months, Residential medical officer is lying vacant for one year , radiologist for one year, medical officer (skin) for 18 months, medical officer one post for five years vacant. assistant register 3 posts are laying vacant for 2 years and Medical officer -Unani has been laying vacant for 3 months.
Rest of the senior doctors are not providing services properly to the hospital. Most of juniors and intern doctors has been providing services which are not as much as sufficient to the patients. Most of the senior doctors just maintaining their routine work even after signing the attendant register they go home. As a result, patients are not getting treatment facilities from the hospital.
There is a terrific suffering at emergency treatment center. Most of junior doctors and interns even some office assistant has been
providing treatment support to the out-door and emergency treatment center.
Moreover, many out-door patients alleged that although doctors sit idly in their room, patients wait in front of their room in long queue hours after hours.
Zamila Khatoon, 40, who came to the hospital from Charghospur village in Pabna upazila sadar upazila on Monday, said: “I have come here three hours ago, but failed to visit medical assistant while a number of medical representatives already visited them.”
Another patient, who came with her a daughter to the hospital, said after waiting for a few hours, she was returning to home without getting any medical services.
Romena Begum, 59, and Shefali Khatun, 45, who came from Sujanagar, Pabna with severe respiratory problem and lower abdominal pain respectively, alleged that they were not getting proper treatment at the hospital because of non-availability of doctors.
“After suffering from fever for 10 days, I came to the hospital. But I could not get any chance for treatment as they are not doing their duty properly, juts after having their regular routine work, they are not stay at their chamber.
Emergency patients, who come to the hospital in the afternoon or at night, are often deprive of medical services, said the sources.
It is also alleged that there is a one X-ray machine at operation theatre room and the operation theatre has not been working properly for the last three years for lack of senior surgeon.
While our correspondent talked with the assistant Director Dr. Md. Abul Hossian , said he requested to the authority to deployed the doctors and others in against of vacant posts. He also said due to present scenario regarding COVID 19, most of doctors fell threat and not move from one place to others place considering security. He also said they could not run the hospital properly because of multifarious problems.
“We have sent several letters to the higher authorities seeking measures to fill up vacant post, but steps to resolve the crisis are yet to taken,’ said Assistant Director.
