Doly Begum, Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Southwest (SSW) has recently said that the Ford government is keeping the Ontarians in dark regarding the allocation in the Federal COVID-19 fund for this province.
On 16th September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provided details about the government’s key recovery plan for provinces and cities, which involves $19 billion for a range of measures aimed at fighting COVID-19.
Trudeau laid out spending plans under the Safe Restart Program, which was first announced back in June as a way to funnel money to cash-strapped provinces and municipalities. The Ontario government will receive $4.8 billion under the plans, according to a list of spending measures.
But recently the Ontario Financial Accountability Officer found that the Ford government has failed to allocate billions of dollars in federal COVID-19 funds. Then on a video message, Doly said, this failed allocation includes the $382 million that this government promised they would use for the safe return to the school fund and they kept reassuring the people of Ontario saying that they will find a safe plan for our Educators, for our students. But people are still kept in the dark on so many of these details.
Dolly blames this government not to take effective measures to fight COVID-19 in Ontario. She said Premier Doug Ford does not believe in investing in our province, our schools, our hospitals, long-term care homes that have suffered long enough due to the mismanagement of public tax dollars. And we know Doug Ford’s agenda is about cutting services that is needed for the betterment of our Province, she added.
Dolly said, she will be back in the legislature at Queen’s Park on Monday and will raise many issues including education and child-care and will ask the government for transparency and accountability so that the people of this province may know how their government is taking measures to fight COVID-19 and how the funds are being spent.
