The Ministry of Finance has released 50 percent of the fund which will be spent to procure the Covid-19 vaccine, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday.
It has also been decided that 50 lakh people would be given every month, he said.
“Some three crore (30 million) doses of vaccine which will be brought under the first phase, will be injected to people across the country. Gradually, all the people of the country would be brought under a massive vaccination programme,” the Health Minister said.
Zahid Maleque was talking to journalists after inaugurating the operation theatre at the Department of Surgery of Sheikh Russel National Gastro-Liver Institute and Hospital on Thursday.
The Health Minister said the Covid-19 vaccine requires to be preserved under 2 to 8 degrees Fahrenheit. “We have got that kind of arrangements. We’ll buy that kind of vaccine. There are some vaccines which require minus 70 to 80 degree Fahrenheit of temperature to be preserved. We’ll not buy those kinds of vaccines. We’ve not necessary arrangements to preserve those vaccines. We’ll purchase that kind of vaccine which we can preserve.”
The minister said the coronavirus infection recovery rate is high and the death rate is low in Bangladesh as the government took necessary measures at the initial stage.
He also called upon all to follow the health guidelines strictly.
Meanwhile, more than 37 people died of coronavirus pandemic during the last 24 hours in the country. With the figure, the death toll from Covid-19 infection in Bangladesh has reached 6,524.
Besides, more than 2,292 Covid-19 positive cases have been detected in the country. With these, the number of Covid-19 infected cases have stood at 4,56,438. Of them, 3,71,453 have recovered.
