Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader, was detained upon returning to Russia. The prison service said he had been detained for multiple violations of parole.
In Germany, Navalny spent five months recovering from a nerve agent attack he blamed on the Kremlin. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied a role in the poisoning by the opposition leader.
While aboard a domestic flight from Siberia to Moscow on Aug. 20, Navalny was in a coma. Two days later, he was transferred from a hospital in Siberia to a hospital in Berlin. Tests showed he was exposed to a Novichok nerve agent from the Soviet era.
