Ontario reported 1,969 COVID-19 cases on Monday and 36 deaths. Health Minister Christine Elliott reports that 341,900 vaccine doses have now been distributed by the province. The latest long-term care home to be ravaged by an outbreak, Roberta Place, reports 61 people have now died in the home.
The home is also facing a potential class-action lawsuit from the families of tenants who allege that those accused of keeping them safe have abused their loved ones. The province says that since contracting the virus, 14 more people have died, raising the total number of deaths to 3,543 since the beginning of the pandemic. In the coming weeks, provincial officials say they plan to conduct up to 25,000 laboratory-processed and 25,00 on-site, rapid antigen tests each week. For both students and workers, the testing would be voluntary and a choice, officials said.
On arrival in Ontario beginning today, travelers will have to take a COVID-19 exam. The provincial government unveiled the initiative on Friday, the same day a similar policy was announced by the federal government. The test order is valid today at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.
