Sinthia Hoque:-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden held their first-ever face-to-face virtual meeting, lasting about two hours which also included Deputy Prime Minister Christya Freeland and U.S Vice President Kamala Harris.
The meeting was held in order to discuss some of the most pressing issues shared between both Canada and the United States with Biden mention, “The United States has no closer friend, no closer friend than Canada; We’re all best served when the United States and Canada work together and lead together”. In response to this the Prime Minister response back, “U.S leadership has been sorely missed over past years”.
The first bit was kept small and held including Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau and his Erica Counterpart Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the second part of the meeting which was much more expanded included Trudeau’s cabinet and their American counterparts as discussed on issues such as climate change, environmental files, transport, trade, public safety, defense, and natural resources.
The discussion also covered certain things such as both country’s vaccine rollouts, aid for global immunization, cross-border energy projects, and China’s ongoing issues with human rights abuse. At the end of their discussion, they reach an agreed conclusion to come up with a PARTNERSHIP ROADMAP where the two countries will work together to fight COVID-19, rebuild their economies, climate change, advance diversity, and improve national security measures as well as build international alliances. As reported by CTV News and the White House this roadmap will be, “a blueprint for our whole of government relationship, based on our shared values and commitment to work in partnership on areas of mutual concern”.
