Sinthia Hoque:– For the first time in a week, Ontario is reporting new COVID-19 cases under 1,000.
The 966 infections reported is a decrease from the previous report logged on Monday, a total of 1,023, Sunday being 1,062 and Saturday, 1,185.
The total number of COVID-19 cases for Ontario is now 302,805, including 285,262 recoveries and 6,997 deaths. 11 of these deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
According to health officials, Ontario’s COVID-19 positivity rates are currently at 2.9 per cent, as 30,767 tests were processed a day prior.
There are currently 10,546 active COVID-19 cases in Ontario.
According to the Ministry of Health, of the COVID-19 infections reported in Ontario on Tuesday, there are currently 253 in Toronto, 223 in Peel region and 99 in York region.
There are currently 677 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized, which has increased over the past three days, 284 of these patients are in intensive care and 189 are breathing with help of a ventilator.
Ontario health officials also say that in the past 24 hours, there have been another seven confirmed cases of the variant, known as B.1.1.7. The total number of variant B.1.1.7 documented in Ontario so far is, 542.
The case count for the B.1.351 (South African variant) and P.1 (Brazilian variant) currently remain at 27 and 3, with no additional cases found.
