Gillian McIntosh tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 6 while nearly 36 weeks pregnant. She was placed in a coma due to complications and gave birth while in the coma. Her newborn son Travis spent 15 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. McIntosh is now recovering and her son is doing well.
“He’s quite the little butterball, and he’s growing very nicely,” she says of her four-month-old son. McIntosh praises the hospital staff in Abbotsford, B.C., saying, “I can’t say enough about true support and genuine care that they all gave to me.” “You had to redo the things you take for granted every day,” she said of her time in the hospital.
“I missed the first six weeks of his life,” she joked, “but I also missed the first six weeks of that painful new parent sleeping routine.” “I’m basically healthy,” she says, “except for some issues with my lungs, which will be a long-term issue.” “The fact that I’ve recovered so well up to this point is nothing short of a miracle.”
