Days after celebrating her 114th birthday, Canada’s oldest known living person received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Toronto.
Phyllis Ridgway, who was born on March 10, 1907, received her first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, according to a tweet from the hospital.
“This is the best birthday I’ve ever had,” Ridgway told Sunnybrook.
“What a touching moment,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the tweet. “And, to Phyllis, a belated birthday greeting! We’re thrilled you were able to celebrate in this manner. “
As part of Phase 1 of the province’s rollout plan, the province began administering vaccines to members of the general public aged 80 and up earlier this month. So far, more than 1.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ontario.
