To combat the spread of the deadly flu virus, Ontario is ramping up immunization efforts. On Thursday, more than 60,000 shots were given out across the province, setting a new record for a single day.
Officials from the Department of Health have not provided specific instructions for those who receive the first dose of the vaccine. Fully vaccinated people should gather indoors with other fully vaccinated people and visit unvaccinated homes, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In hopes to gradually expand the immunization program, the province will start administrating vaccines to residents aged 75 and up, starting Monday. Residents can book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine shot through the province’s website.
The number of pharmacies is expected to double to 700, and they will be able to administer the AstraZeneca shot to residents aged 60 and up.
In addition to the pharmacies, 60 doctors offices are also vaccinating patients, and another 30 are currently in the early planning stages.
The Canadian Public Health Agency does not have any specific recommendations for people who have had the first or second shot. Those who have been vaccinated can still become infected with COVID-19 and transmit the virus.
