Sinthia Hoque:-During an announcement on Friday in regards to building a new hospital in Brampton, Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford comments on Canada’s vaccine rollout, saying the federal government has “dropped the ball”.
“I’m as frustrated as they come”, said Ford. “It’s a joke. Fifty-fifth in the world”.
Ford, who is frustrated says “enough is enough” and blame’s the federal government for not securing enough vaccines and said that the inconsistency of the supply has made planning the province’s rollout even more difficult.
In total, the province has administered over 1.8 million vaccines to residents, with 82, 900 vaccines administered within the last 24 hours.
So far 306, 373 residents in Ontario are considered immunized and have received both doses of the vaccine.
“We could easily go to 120, 000 but we don’t have the vaccines to do that”, said Hillier.
According to the head of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution task force, retired Gen. Rick Hillier, Ontario is capable of vaccinating more than 120, 000 residents.
Hillier said that with more planning, Ontario is capable of eventually vaccinating 300,000 people per day and that by the weekend more than two people will have received the vaccine.
So far, about 13 per cent of eligible Canadians have received a COVID-19 vaccine, and the Trudeau government has promised residents and said those who are eligible and wish to receive the vaccine, can get one before the end of September.
