Three levels of government have announced a partnership to increase Canada’s vaccine manufacturing capacity in Toronto. The partnership with Sanofi Pasteur Ltd will cost the federal government $415 million.
Sanofi will invest more than $455 million in Canada, creating and retaining 1,225 high-skilled jobs. The new facility is expected to be operational in 2027. According to officials, it will be able to produce “enough vaccine doses to support the entire Canadian population.”
The announcement comes as the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario appears to be worsening once more. Due to the pandemic, which is on the rise in the city, the province has warned Ontarians not to make any Easter plans ahead of the holiday weekend.
According to the city’s hospital system, the City of Toronto continues to have the highest number of COVID cases in the province.
