François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, welcomes the publication of a report on the diversity of federal distributing corporations. The report comes after the passage of Bill C-25, which went into effect in 2020.
According to Champagne, the report will serve as a yardstick against which future progress will be measured. Women, racialized people, LGBTQ2 people, and people with disabilities are all under-represented in positions of economic influence and organizational leadership in Canada, he claims.
“A diverse and representative workforce allows Canadian businesses to reach their full potential, which only strengthens our economy,” Champagne continues.
To address this reality, the government has launched the 50 – 30 Challenge, the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy, and a charter on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
