Sinthia Hoque:-In a recent news conference, Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford has announced that the four-week stay-at-home order which had just started a week ago, has now been extended another two, including two new other measures.
“My friend’s, we’re losing the battle between variants and vaccines. The pace of our vaccine supply has not kept up with the spread of the new COVID-19 variants. We’re on our heels”, Ford said in a statement on Friday afternoon.
“But if we dig in and remain steadfast, we can turn this around”, he continued.
In addition to the extended stay-at-home order, Ford has also announced border checkpoint measures discouraging inter- provincial travel, stricter limits on larger stores capacities, as well as a halt to non-essential construction and more.
The stay-at-home order which initially took effect at 12:01 a.m. on April 8th is expected to last until at least may 20th, due to the extension.
As it seems that many residents have not been compliant of the stay-at-home order and beginning Saturday, officers are now allowed to stop and question those who are out of their homes and fine accordingly if the reason is deemed to be inessential.
