A sentencing hearing for a 47-year-old Oshawa man accused of murdering and dismembering two young women has been rescheduled for next month. Last month, Adam Strong was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Rori Hache, aged18. In addition, he was charged with manslaughter in the death of Kandis Fitzpatrick.
The two-day sentencing hearing was supposed to start today, but due to the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed until May 10. The judge stated that Strong sexually assaulted and murdered Hache beyond a reasonable doubt, but that there was insufficient evidence to prove that Strong intended to kill her.
The judge stated unequivocally that the accused “unlawfully caused her death.” The sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 10 and will be presided over by Justice Joseph Di Luca of the Ontario Superior Court. A first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
