Shomporko Online News Desk: On Monday, the family of a Black man killed by police in a Montreal suburb Sunday will attend a press conference.
Officers murdered a 38-year-old man in Repentigny, Que., an off-island neighborhood north of Montreal, on Sunday, prompting an investigation by Quebec’s police watchdog.
Montreal-based civil rights group Center for Research-Action on Race Relations says the family will speak at their home this afternoon.
The watchdog says Repentigny police responded to a 911 call just after 7:30 a.m. regarding an allegedly confused and unstable man armed with a knife.
According to the report, authorities discovered the man outside and attempted to speak with him, but he ran on foot and allegedly threatened officers.
According to the watchdog, police attempted to restrain the man with pepper spray but were unsuccessful, so they shot him multiple times.
