According to Toronto police, a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the city’s downtown core this morning and died in hospital.
It happened shortly before noon near Bay and College streets.
The victim, an 80-year-old woman, was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a car turning onto westbound College Street from Bay Street, according to police. Another 80-year-old woman is said to have been driving the vehicle.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
Police say that members of the Traffic Services unit continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the collision.
“Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators,” a news release issued on Friday afternoon states.
