The famous politician William Carey Jones once said –
“The joy of brightening other lives, beating each other’s burdens, easing other’s loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas.”
I live by this spirit. A functional member of the society should be generous and giving back to the society all year round but this time of the year has its own “giving” appeal. The bone-shaking legendary Canadian cold weather with windchill and snow brings people closer to each other anyways. We feel the need of more warmth at our heart and celebrate the last few days of the year lifting each other’s spirits. The time is specially great for children because Santa comes bearing many gifts for them as a reward for being the precious angels and giving us our purpose in life. So, I naturally leaped up with incredible joy when one of my most respected brothers Alamgir Muhammad asked me to join his team help spreading the joy.
On the cold December Saturday of 21st me and my good friend Sonny Mir went to the Venue at our very own Regent Park. There we get introduced with some more awesome people like Walied Khogali – community activist and member of the regent park community benefits coalition, Loyd- an amazing organizer, Mr. Wong and this entire team of “Happy Dancers”.
At the beginning of the event Alamgir Muhammad and his friends Alice Ye—the Assistant Revitalization officer, Regent park, TCH and Ines Garcia- the Co Chair, Community safety unit. arrived with box full of toys that they have collected for quite some times. Then come the amazing Walied Khogali who brought toys from the Toronto catholic teachers association. I got super excited to see all those anatomy’s and gifts. The kid in me wanted to play with them right away.
