Replacing a broken criminal justice system with one free of inequity will demand significant changes to our collective outlook regarding criminality and those we imprison. Resources will have to be reallocated to guarantee equal access to the same level of funding, institutions, and experts that are currently available to the State and not the accused.
Just as police departments should reflect and be responsive to the diversity of their communities, so should the prosecutorial authorities.
Every part of our criminal justice system in the United States must be considered as one as we decide how we will go forward together lifting each other up and demanding equal justice for all.
The faces of hate, intolerance, and bigotry the world witnessed on January 6, 2021, Insurrection Day, can leave no doubt that the United States is a racist nation. A fact the rest of the world already knew.
