Shomporko Online News Desk: According to police, a suspicious device discovered in a West Kelowna residence over the weekend had nothing to do with Saturday night’s double shooting in Kelowna.
Officers responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Cameron Road on Aug. 1 and discovered what they described as a suspected improvised explosive device, according to a press statement published Wednesday morning.
“For safety reasons, officers evacuated the area and called the RCMP explosives disposal unit (EDU),” said police.
“The device was safely removed from the scene by the EDU officer and disposed of at a secondary site.”
Police did not say why they were investigating the home, and the device turned out to be a homemade battery pack that was apparently unstable.
Staff Sgt. Duncan Dixon said, “Investigation has found that this device is not related to the incident in Kelowna on July 31.”
“An examination of the item revealed that it was a handmade battery pack created by someone. It was, however, insecure and potentially dangerous.”
The inquiry is still ongoing, according to the police.
