Sinthia Hoque:- Amelia Hamlin, 19, a model who is currently dating Scott Disick at the moment has gotten accused of “blackfishing” in her recent Instagram photos. Hamlin had posted these photos on Feb 25th, in which the model is seen wearing her hair in long thin braids and her skin tone much darker than her previous pictures, captioning the post, “whiplash got me like….”
The post had left a trail of negative comments due to which model had turned off the comment section and later on shared in an Instagram story about the negative comments she received in which people had accused her of “blackfishing”, “im receiving a lot of comments in regards to my latest photo. I am being told that I’m ‘blackfishing’- thank you all for educating me on this topic. I recently went on vacation in the sun, and with my Italian heritage I tan very easily”. Continuing on her story she said, “There is no self tanner involved. Or intention of looking darker than my own skin color. I had a lot of fun creating this look with no malice intention or offence”.
According to the Urban Dictionary, the term “blackfishing” is “ a trend commonly perpetrated by white women who use tanning and make-up to appear to have some type of Black African ancestry”. Besides many Amelia Hamlin, there are many other known celebrities such as Rita Ora and rapper Bhad Bhabie who have been accused of this.
