Statement from The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs: Canada applauds the United Nations Human Rights Council’s adoption of a resolution on Sri Lanka’s reconciliation, accountability, and human rights. For the passage of this resolution, Canada collaborated with members of the council.
The UN Human Rights Council will continue to press Sri Lanka to uphold its human rights obligations, end impunity, and establish a comprehensive accountability process for all human rights violations and abuses. The resolution, in Canada’s opinion, is a step toward ensuring a secure, peaceful, and inclusive future for Sri Lanka, and it stands ready to support efforts to achieve this goal.
