To support adaptation to climate change in the Prairies, Canada is launching the ClimateWest hub. $1.95 million of federal funding over three years for the launch of ClimateWest.
For the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, ClimateWest is a new non-profit regional climate service hub. Insured losses in the Prairies were in excess of $12.5 billion between 1993 and 2018 due to extreme weather. Since 2010, six of the ten most costly weather events in Canada have occurred in the Prairies. ClimateWest builds on its founding organizations’ strengths.
