Tiasha Tabassum:-Last month there was a fire incident at a major nuclear facility in Iran. At that time the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) did not reveal how it occurred but hinted for possible cyber sabotage.
Following the incident, some more fires and explosions occurred at other nuclear power sites. The mysterious attacks have already caused chaos in the state. Iran will be replacing the damaged equipment with more advanced equipment soon.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, an AEOI spokesperson, told state TV channel Al-Alam on Sunday that “security authorities will reveal in due time the reason behind the [Natanz] blast”. Natanz is the largest uranium enrichment facility of Iran.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the UN’s nuclear watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has found evidence of Iran’s attempt to boost uranium enrichment in the plant. This possible attempt is a violation of a 2015 nuclear deal that Iran signed with several world powers. If this accusation is proven true then Iran might get some penalty from IAEA.
Rafael Grossi, IAEA’s director-general is visiting Iran to watch over the matter and suspected allegations. However, Iran has not answered about their possible possession of undeclared nuclear materials and nuclear-related activities at these sites in the early 2000s yet.
