Shomporko Desk:- Adnan Habib, a grade 11 student currently attending R.H King Academy, is going to contest in the election for the next Student Trustee of TDSB.
The promising young guy has been involved in Student Senate since 2018 to express student’s concerns and opinions. He served as the Learning Center 3 Co-Chair and also as the Co-Chair for Learning Center’s 3 initiative, Spotlight. Spotlight is a charity concert that raises money for local services that are making an impact in the community.
Adnan has recently shared plans and experiences about the election to Shomporko.
Give us some basic information about the election like date, number of parties, voters etc
Adnan: The election is for the position of the TDSB student trustee which will be held on June 11th, from 8 am to 8 pm. Any grade 6 to 11 students in the TDSB can vote and there will be two student trustees which will be elected.
If you win, what would you do for the students of our community?
If I were to win, I would use the resources around me to help those who come from different backgrounds by giving them the opportunities they need to succeed. I also hope to improve mental health and well-being facilities at schools to support student learning.
Do you have plans to take politics as your profession when you grow up?
As of right now, I’m not too sure on whether or not I would like to have a career in Canadian politics, but I do know that I want to be in a position that gives me the power to help groups of people.
How do your parents support you in your political venture?
My parents have been a major help throughout my campaign. They have supported me by notifying members of the Bengali community of the election and how their children will be able to vote.
How are you managing the election, studies and personal life? What are the
challenges?
The election is my top priority as of right now, but I am still able to focus on my studies. It is difficult right now, but I am still managing.
