COVID-19 hospitalizations may surge in the next several weeks, according to the scientific director of Ontario’s expert pandemic advisory group.
While the province lacks exact information on COVID-19 cases, data on mobility and test positivity, according to Dr. Peter Jüni, provide some insight into the current trajectory.
He claims that since late last month, people’s mobility outside of their houses, which is directly connected with their number of interactions, has decreased dramatically.
Positive test results have also begun to decline.
Jüni says those two elements combined are cause for cautious optimism that the COVID-19 situation in hospitals may start to peak in the next few weeks.
He says hospital occupancy will need to be watched over the next week to see if the disease curve is indeed flattening.
