In Toronto’s east end, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate a blaze that left four people dead and two others injured. A two-story house on Gainsborough Road, near Coxwell Avenue and Eastwood Road in the Upper Beaches area of Toronto, was destroyed by fire.80 firefighters and 20 trucks responded to the three-alarm fire. The origin, cause and circumstances of the fire will be investigated by Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal, Toronto Fire and Toronto Police. No cause has been determined yet.
At present, the structure is not secure and must be stabilized by the structural support specialists of Toronto Fire Services before investigators can go inside, says the fire chief. On Saturday morning, Rowland told reporters, “Because of the amount of the heat and fire and water that was put into the building yesterday, structurally, the building is unsafe right now.”
After falling across a floor and being overcome by the heat, he says, the firefighters were treated and released. “This house was really hot yesterday,” said Chief Chris Rowland of the Toronto Fire Platoon.
