Local fire crews say a large fire that broke out overnight at a low-rise Oshawa apartment building, has left some of its residents homeless. Oshawa Fire Services says they were called to a three-story apartment building at 922 Glen Street, north of Wentworth Street West, around 1 a.m. Thursday for a working fire.
The fire started in a unit on the second floor and took a long time for fire crews to put out. The fire was extinguished around 3 a.m. According to the city’s fire chief, two people were taken to the hospital in Oshawa, one for smoke inhalation and the other for a separate medical issue.
Some of the building’s residents were offered shelter at the Oshawa South Community Center, about two kilometers south on Cedar Street, as a result of the fire’s damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
