The contract to renew 5 Wing Goose Bay’s existing Wing support services and facilities maintenance contract was awarded on March 12 by Public Services and Procurement Canada. This 10-year contract is worth $694 million, with two five-year extension options worth up to $1.5 billion over 20 years. Serco Canada Inc. of Happy Valley-Goose Bay was awarded the contract, which is expected to provide significant economic opportunities for the region by sustaining approximately 250 jobs over a 10-year period.
This contract’s work will continue to include a wide range of real estate and operational support services. This includes support for airfield operations, as well as general maintenance and day-to-day management of the Wing’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. All aspects of Wing operations, as well as core administrative and financial matters, will be overseen by the CAF and the Department of National Defence (DND).

Quick facts
This contract includes an Indigenous Benefits Plan, which will allocate $100 million to Indigenous peoples’ employment and training opportunities.
Since 1998, the private sector has provided these operational support services, as well as the maintenance and operation of the Wing’s facilities, infrastructure, and airfield.
This private-sector partnership will supplement our existing real-estate workforce and will not affect the jobs of indefinitely employed DND personnel.
5 Wing Goose Bay is responsible for a wide range of military operations, including joint training for the Canadian Armed Forces, our Allies, and NORAD.
