There have been 1,074 new SARS-COV-2 cases reported in Ontario, with 313 in Toronto, 199 in Peel, and 101 in York. Lab tests revealed the virus in 28,526 people, with a 4.5 percent positivity rate, the highest since February 2nd. According to experts, it is “inevitable” that the entire Golden Horseshoe will be placed in the grey lockdown tier for a period of time.
The problem is mainly concentrated in the Golden Horseshoe that streets from Niagara in the west around Lake Ontario to Simcoe in the east, said Dr. Peter Jüni, University professor of medicine and epidemiology and scientific director of the advisory table. “It’s a race against time, new variants versus vaccines,” he says, “but the new variants are winning right now.”
The patient count appears to be increasing again in intensive care. In 7,173 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, 11 deaths were reported. The 7-day average of daily cases decreased to 1334 with another 25 cases of B117 confirmed yesterday. 288,918 individuals in Ontario received both doses of vaccines. Yesterday, 51,579 vaccine doses were released by health units, the second highest dosage in one single day so far.
Premier Doug Ford said 133,000 people booked first-dose appointments on Monday, with more than 100,000 people booking on Tuesday until midday. Between last Friday and yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Health reported another 367 school-related cases: 301 students and 66 staff. There are currently 27 of the 4,828 schools in Ontario that are openly funded or approximately 0.6 percent.
