Shomporko Online News Desk: James Bond actress Lea Seydoux has tested positive with COVID-19 in Paris, according to the entertainment website Variety. She was scheduled to perform at the Cannes Film Festival next week, where organizers are trying to keep COVID-19 contagion at bay.

Due to the pandemic, the world’s largest film festival, which began on the French Riviera on July 6 and has attracted stars from all over the world despite health crisis limitations, will be canceled in 2020.

Although immunizations are progressing and festival organizers are doing strict testing checks on guests, this year’s edition is taking place amid increased occurrences of the highly transmissible Delta strain of the virus in France.

French actress Seydoux is one of the big stars of this year’s edition, with four films showing at Cannes, and three in its main competition, including Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch”, which is to premiere on Monday.

Variety cited a spokesperson for Seydoux as confirming her positive test despite being fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. The spokesperson said she would remain in quarantine for now.

Her publicist and film agents could not be reached for comment immediately by Reuters. It was unclear whether she would cancel her appearances right away.

There were no signs of a “Cannes cluster,” according to festival organizers, who helped set up a free saliva testing center for COVID-19 near where celebs approach the red carpet.

Thousands of people who attended the festival were tested on Friday, and none of them tested positive, according to a spokeswoman.

Hollywood celebs, including Matt Damon, have traveled to France for the return of Cannes, though attendance is down on past years, and veterans say there are significantly fewer lavish parties, which are generally hosted on boats off the shore.
