In Toronto, the Peel region and the York region, the stay-at-home order will remain in effect until at least Feb 22. The order will remain in effect until Feb. 16 in all other regions, except Kingston. In those regions, the transition to the green level of the color-coded shutdown system will begin with indoor dining, bars, and malls.

Before the entire province went into lockdown on Dec 26, the tiered system is what Ontario was using. “My friends, the measures are working. Staying home is saving lives,” says Premier Doug Ford. “Today we’re seeing some sunlight break through the clouds,” says Ford of the economy, adding: “Staying at home has saved lives” In-person shopping will be permitted in grey areas, with capacity limits in most retail settings of 25 percent.

“We’re not out of the woods yet. I’m still concerned about these variants. We can’t let our guard down now”, Ford adds further. The Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario states that it is not a “return to normal” and that people should only leave the house for unavoidable circumstances..

“We need to keep bending the curve, and we need to stay home as much as possible,” says Ford. The ’emergency brake system’ allows for flexibility to contain the rapid spread of the community in a particular region, says the Minister of Health.
