Number of Covid-19 infections in Bangladesh crosses 5 lakh mark

Thirty-eight people have died in the country from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of deaths has now reached 7,280 and the death rate stands at 1.45 percent.

A total of 1,153 new infections were recorded during this period, taking the total number of people infected to 5,00,713, stated the release.

The current positivity rate is 8.66 percent, while the total positivity rate stands at 16.28 percent.

At least 13,316 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours.

In the meantime, 1,926 Covid-19 patients have recovered, pushing the total number of recoveries tally to 4,37,527 and the recovery rate at 87.38 percent.

Among the 38 deceased, 30 were men and eight were women.

Of the deceased, one was below 10, one between 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, four within 41-50, nine within 51-60 and 22 were above 60 years old, added the release.
