Values. It isn’t just a word. It describes a person’s principles and standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life. Qadira Jackson embodies the ethics, beliefs, and experiences to serve and improve our community. As an Ontario Liberal Party Nomination Candidate in Scarborough Southwest, Jackson, “stands up for our communities with compassion, with resilience, and with heart every step of the way.”
Qadira Jackson is very proud to live in Scarborough Southwest and has two toddlers currently attending Daycare in the riding. She was on the ground floor lending support to revive the Scarborough Southwest Provincial Liberal Association in 2018, leveraging her experience as the President of the Scarborough-Guildwood Provincial Liberal Association.
Qadira Jackson’s family has been strongly rooted in Scarborough for more than 40 years. Jackson’s parents immigrated from Jamaica and Trinidad, her father landing right here in Scarborough. “As someone whose family has lived in Scarborough for over 40 years, I understand the uniqueness and sense of community that makes Scarborough one of a kind.” Whether it’s Steel band competitions, Nuit Blanche Scarborough, or Concerts for Artists from other countries, Jackson is thrilled to see cultural heritage is celebrated in such a unique way in Scarborough.
Growing up, Jackson’s parents struggled as new immigrants to make their way in this Country, sacrificing everything to ensure their children were given an opportunity to have a good education and a better life. Her mother became a social worker working mostly with abused women and children, who later opened their home to foster kids. “I like to say that I have 150 brothers and sisters, as I have lived with at least 150 foster children over the years. It was tough to hear of the abuse many of the children had to endure and made me appreciate the importance of strong families.”
Jackson’s parents both went on to graduate from York University and Jackson followed in her mother’s footsteps, also graduating from York University with a Psychology Degree and a Social Work Degree, ultimately becoming a social worker, working with abused women and children, before graduating from the University of Windsor with a Law Degree. Jackson is currently a lawyer and runs her own law practice which has been in operation for over 10 years.
This unique upbringing has shaped Jackson’s personality, inspiring her to give back to the community and understand the importance of family. As a small-business owner, volunteer, board member, mother, wife, social worker, and lawyer, Jackson is ready to leverage her experiences to serve the Scarborough Southwest community.
Jackson is currently an Executive Board Member/Director at the West Scarborough Neighborhood Community Centre, a Councillor with the Professional Engineers Ontario, and the President of the Scarborough-Guildwood Provincial Liberal Association.
“If given the privilege to be your MPP, I will be that strong voice Scarborough Southwest so desperately needs. The Ontario Liberal Party has a great opportunity to rebuild as the 2022 election nears. In rebuilding, I think it is important that we be inclusive and elect MPPs that reflect the diversity, family, and social values of our unique community. I have been knocking on doors for close to a year in our riding and have demonstrated my commitment to the betterment of people of all walks of life in all corners of the riding, and I would like to extend that commitment to the families of Scarborough Southwest so that together we can build a stronger Ontario.”
