A woman was rescued from the freezing Rouge River in Scarborough on Wednesday evening and is in critical condition.
Around 8 p.m., the woman fell through the ice near the Glen Rouge Campground on Kingston Road, according to Toronto police.

Officers were able to find and rescue the woman using an app. According to police, an officer leapt into the river and rescued the woman.
She was rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition, Toronto paramedics said.
The officer was also treated for exposure.
The circumstances leading up to the incident were not immediately known.
